Two Easy Outfits to Style Bralettes in

From the days of flimsy bralettes with zero support (ouch) to the early wireless bras that compensated with way-too-stiff padding, I am well-versed in the world of comfy underwear. Nothing beats the comfort of a well-fitted t-shirt bra, especially now that I primarily work from home.

The world of intimates is ever-evolving, and Shuāng stands out as a small Taiwanese brand dedicated to creating intimates that look as good as they feel. They sent me their latest Baobao X bra, which embraces like a second skin and is very flattering to wear alone (more on that later). Spring is slowly creeping up in Hong Kong, so I thought I’d style two tonal looks you can easily replicate with other bralettes you own.

Baobao X Bralette

Wireless bras retain a better cup shape but still feature a back clasp, which never sits quite as flat under form-fitting tops and can sometimes still dig in, whereas bralettes that slip on over-the-head sacrifice functionality for comfort. The Baobao X has the best of both worlds.

The bralette comes in dreamy pastel colours like cherry blossom pink, honeydew green, and stone blue and can be worn with matching underwear. I’m wearing the choco brown in size XS/S (I’m usually an XS in Uniqlo and 75A for most other brands).

At first glance, it has a deeper scoop neck than most bralettes, which may show a little more decolletage depending on your chest size, but it also makes it look less like a bra and more like a top. That doesn’t mean the Baobao X offers any less support, though.

The non-removable padding is fixed with 240 precise support points that ensure they stay in place. The higher side wings smoothen those pesky armpit rolls, while the centre chest seam and graduating cups tuck everything for a naturally full contour that lies seamlessly under t-shirts—farewell to empty cups that go all over the place when you move.

Baobao X also uses a patented Avocado 20D fabric for an elastic, soft support that retains its shape after repeated washing. Instead of traditional wiring, the fabric around the cups features support lines that run in a chevron under the cups and vertically along the sides to adapt to your chest shape. Its minimal design has also gotten rid of all seams and washing labels for true comfort that doesn’t chafe or irritate, making it comfortable enough to sleep in.

Two sets of shoulder straps of varying thickness are included; both can be worn regularly as a U-back or adjusted to become a cross-back.

Look 1: Double Denim

Canadian tuxedos work with almost everything. I always have a pair of my favourite jeans on the rack, and this look is super easy to throw on for an errand run.

My tip is to pick a matching denim shade for your top and bottom pieces, preferably one that offers maximum contrast to the bralette you’re wearing. I’m wearing a dark brown bralette here, so I’ve opted for denim in a light blue wash and coordinated the look with a dark brown belt, flats with ruching detail, and a suede handbag for added texture. If you’re wearing a pale bralette, you can easily swap out the pieces for darker denim and white sneakers that go with everything.

Denim always has that relaxed vibe, and I love that you can quickly spruce it up with accessories so it looks more effortless and intentional. You can also wear denim shorts for this look, though I like to pair a lighter top (i.e. more skin exposed) with heavier bottoms for a more balanced look.

Look 2: All Black

For a sleeker look, style the bralette with high-waisted leggings and a blazer, another of my fail-safe formulas to dress in that perfectly bridges the gap between athleisure and date night-ready chic.

The blazer instantly elevates the look, while its oversized silhouette once again juxtaposes the bralette. A baseball cap and shiny leggings give an urban streetwear touch, and sleek, low-profile sneakers complement the sporty aesthetic. Top it off with a structured handbag that adds sophistication and voilà.

You can easily recreate it with a camel blazer and matching cap, perfect for coffee dates or a casual outing.
