Pink Floral Romper: Hunting for Bougainvilleas in the Neighbourhood

We’re officially in summer, i.e. months of hot, humid days before the torrential rainfall hits as tropical cyclones start brewing nearby. Temperatures are already soaring in the high-thirties, what!?

Today I’m dialling back to spring when the bougainvilleas were in full bloom, draping so many residential buildings in swathes of pink—I could even spy several blossoms from my room faraway! Fun fact: the actual flowers of bougainvilleas are the small white clusters in the middle, whereas the brightly coloured parts are thin papery bracts, hence also the name “paper flower”. Yet as much as the magenta shrubs in full bloom are stunning, I think my favourites are the orange and warm golden blooms that are much less common locally.

When it comes to packing for vacations, rompers are my #1 secret weapon. Often bright and clad in playful designs, they make planning outfits a lot easier and are easy to throw on. Bonus: most come with functional pockets, so no more forgetting where you put your lens cap! …Or your hand sanitiser as of Covid-19.

This one in abstract florals is from the Singaporean brand Fash Mob, who stocks an array of rompers and dresses in humidity-friendly materials and uplifting prints. The last time I stopped by their store, I was fairly constrained in my shopping as I had assumed I would be back soon enough… Travel is bound to open up at some point; meanwhile I hope we all stay safe and do our part (and promote local travel!)
