What’s in my Bag: ANTEPRIMA WIREBAG Secchio Stiloso

I can’t believe it’s been five years since my last trip to Japan–way overdue, I know.

When in Tokyo, I got to check out a treasure trove of local brands, and it stood out how the Japanese love the use of fine metallics, from pleated satin to lamé accessories and shimmery, creamy eyeshadows. There are also a lot of origami-inspired silhouettes, from minimalist pieces that hold their shape sturdily when stood up to household items that ingeniously pack flat.

ANTEPRIMA WIREBAG’s latest piece is the Secchio Stiloso, a bucket bag that embodies the best of Japanese aesthetics. Because it doesn’t have a top handle, the bag folds flat like a paper bag and can be tucked into its dust bag when unused.

I love bucket bags for the ease with which you can toss things in and take them out again, but their silhouettes and sizes don’t always work for Asian heights. The bags are often too big or rigid and don’t nestle against your side comfortably; the straps are too long; drawstring openings complicate things further. The Secchio Stiloso kills all those issues with its simple silhouette, which is a more modern take on their bags as of late. It’s worth noting that the wire cord used is thinner than previous styles, which means the bag feels lighter, softer, and more supple.

It comes in multiple colourways, including the brand’s signature metallic cords that gleam in the light and the more contemporary matte shades rocked by many of its newer styles. Here, I’m wearing the Multi Chiaro, an OG colourway with an iridescent, warm copper hue that glints and changes colour under the sun.

Speaking of which, I’ve been embracing my skin undertones a lot more the past year (I’m a true autumn girl), and I realise I gravitate significantly more towards warm neutrals like brown and beige than their cooler counterparts. This is me speaking from experience, having owned their Standard Wirebag in gold and the Twist Bag in matte camel–I get way more use out of them than the silver Teardrop Wirebag I also reviewed last year.

Like most bucket bags, the Secchio Stiloso has a single compartment, which can be kept shut with a magnetic closure. It’s surprisingly spacious–comfortably fitting my small pocket notebook, sunglasses,iPhone 14 Pro, and some daily essentials. A padded bottom allows the bag to sit nicely on a flat surface and gives it shape when on the go. It is a knitted bag, after all, which means depending on the weight of its contents, it will sag and curve slightly, adding a soft, organic element to it.

The bag has an iconic removable metal chain that can be adjusted to be worn over the shoulder or crossbody. A subtle logo tag in matching hardware completes the look. This versatility ensures the bag goes quickly from day to night, never looking out of place, whatever the occasion.

It’s also why I decided to style it in a mix of high-low fashion, opting for an athleisure co-ord set as a base layer and sneakers that match the metallic hint of the bag. The monochrome palette and everyday comfort of the smooth fabric make the outfit feel effortless, and it’s easy to recreate this look with any flare leggings you own. Throw on a blazer, and I’m ready for client meetings.

I don’t believe the Secchio Stiloso has hit the US market yet, so you can check it out online for now. Or, maybe it’s time for your trip to Tokyo *wink wink*.
